Meet the Studio

Megan Hutera is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she majors in Music Education and studies trumpet with Mr. Robert Baca. Originally from Rice Lake, WI< Megan has performed in numerous pit orchestras in Rice Lake and Eau Claire and was also the first female brass soloist for the Madison Scouts in their 2018 season. Megan enjoys teaching privately, conducting, exploring the beauties of Eau Claire, and teaching at the Shell Lake Arts Center Concert Band camp. Megan is a 4-year member of the Blugold Marching Band with her final two years leading the band as a drum major. Megan has plans to pursue her master's and doctorate in the Music Education field and become and educator and mentor for many students in the future.

Davis Bitterman is a 3rd year Music Education Major from Champlin, MN. Besides playing the trumpet, he enjoys playing board games, downhill skiing, playing piano, and traveling.

Leighton Tuenge is a 3rd year Liberal Arts Major/Recording Audio Certificate from Maple Grove, Minnesota. He has played in a few Broadway shows in Minneapolis including Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat and Once Upon a Mattress. He has also been on the Easter European tour with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony. Along with this, he was also apart of the 2018 Dakota Jazz Combo and was in the Minnesota Youth Jazz Bands for five years. Aside from music he enjoys hiking and camping on the North Shore.

Kyle Kitzman is a 4th year Performance major transfer student from Monticello, Minnesota. He currently plays and tours with the 34th Infantry Division Army Band, as well as freelance work in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with many big bands and orchestras. Outside of trumpet playing Kyle loves to play golf, go camping, spend time with friends and family.

Kate Rosenberger is a 2nd year Trumpet Performance Major from Cedarburg, Wisconsin. She has played with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, the WSMA honors band, and jazz bands at Birch Creek. Outside of trumpet playing, Kate loves traveling, hiking, and trying adventurous things.

John Maruska is a 4th year Trumpet Performance student. He playing in the jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, trumpet choir, and a brass quintet. John's aspiration to be a professional trumpeter wasn't strong until the summer of 2018. When he got to play selections from Star Wars by John Williams with a community orchestra in Rice Lake Wisconsin, he knew trumpet was the path he wanted to take. John couldn't have made a better decision than to come to Eau Claire and study trumpet with Mr. Robert Baca.

Ashleigh Madsen is a 1st year Music Education Major from Omaha, Nebraska. She is involved in the marching, concert, and jazz bands at the university and aims to continue participating in as many ensembles as possible in the coming years. When Ashleigh isn't playing trumpet, she enjoys bouldering, hiking, disc golf, and playing various card games.

Lucas Peterson is a 2nd year student from Eau Claire, WI. He is a Music minor with a major in Physics/Engineering. Throughout his trumpet career, Lucas has had many diverse musical experiences including performing with the Macy's Great American Marching Band, the WSMA State Jazz Ensemble, and many other local jazz groups and musical pit orchestras.

Daniel Geisler is a 3rd year Instrumental Music Education Major from Mukwonago, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Gamma Beta chapter of the Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity and he has performed with the Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin, on a stage at Summerfest, and in many musicals around the Milwaukee and Eau Claire areas. He was also one of the winner of the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire's 2020 concerto competition. Besides playing trumpet, Daniel loves to cook, read, and travel.

Katie Petsch is a 1st year Music Education Major and Recording Audio Certificate from Sun Prairie, WI.  She played in the Winds of Wisconsin, attended the Birch Creek Jazz II session (both for two years), as well as performed alongside Kenny Rampton as a soloist at the Overture Center in Madison.  She also loves to study trumpet, piano, jazz, classical, marching band, and arranging.  Outside of music, Katie enjoys playing video games, photo and video editing, rollerblading, watching Godzilla movies, and talking to friends.  In the future, she plans on doing as much as she can with music.

John Francis is a 3rd year Business Administration Major and Music Minor from Chippewa Falls, WI. He is involved in concert and jazz bands at the university, as well as his own brass quintet. In addition, he is the Co-Festival director for the Eau Claire Jazz Festival. Besides trumpet playing, John enjoys downhill skiing, sailing, golfing, and traveling.

Nick Phalen is currently a 2nd year student in the UW Eau Claire Trumpet Studio. He is a Politial Science major with a Music minor. Nick has spent his last two summers as a principal trumpet player with the Kids From Wisconsin, playing over 120 shows to more than 200,000 people. One of his goals is to play on a national Broadway tour.

Emaleah Matke is a 2nd year Music Education Major from Almond, Wisconsin. She has previously played in the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra and enjoys playing in the Stevens Point City Band during her summers. Besides trumpet playing, Emaleah enjoys kayaking, hiking, and being outdoors.
